This is a compilation of the early works of Aiden Bates (before he stopped doing shifter stuff and went to full-length contemporary mpreg books). I mention this because the summaries and ratings of the stories can still be found by title or under Aiden's name on Goodreads . I read many of these back then and enjoyed most of them. Some I skipped since they weren't my thing (stepbrother, cop stuff, etc). But I can tell you ABSOLUTELY that the collection is worth it all for Omega Beloved 2 (also called Omega Beloved--Re-imagined). It's a longer work and is extremely moving with beautiful writing. I actually teared up at one point in the story. There is a powerful sense of love pervading the story and it's stayed with me since I first read it. I've actually read it several times on KU and am glad to have another chance to purchase it. This is not to say that there's not plenty of other hot, hot stuff in the rest of the collection but, if for no other reason than that one, you should buy it.

This is multiple stories that’s suppose to be alpha/omegas. Most stories didn’t actually have shifter stories like advertised. Other stories I’m still trying to figure out what was going on.If I could rate this less than one star I would’ve.

great collection of sexy mm reads

Overall I'm giving this collection 4 stars - but readers should be advised that not all the stories contained within this bundle are at the same level. Some were 5 stars and a couple were 2 stars, so it's a mixed bag. But I think the good ones make the bundle worth getting and reading. I would love to see this bundle revisited by the author to spruce up the stories that are not up to the same level as his good ones - Preston has a great voice and I would really like to see all his work done at the same level I know he's capable of.

This is a wonderful bundle of stories, some short and a few longer. Some are the full short story series. In Blood and Coffee a alpha police detective and a barista meet and fall for each other. The detective, Mathias, is working on a murder case where alphas are being killed and he falls for his barista putting him in danger when the killer comes to call. Burning Lust involves a young artist who meets his fictional subject and falls for him. This bundle has more than 50 short stories and a lot of them are complete series. This is a wonderful bundle to have in any collection. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

An awesome collection of 60 of Aiden's earlier work. Including some of my favorites such as The Runaway, the story of alpha Eli and the runaway omega Lucas, also His Alpha Moviestar with alpha Tristan and the omega he left years before Silas. I've never seen such an amazing collection of stories in one place before! This is worth it's weight in gold! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Sam turns Luke into a werewolf when he was too drunk to know what was going on so that he could take Kim to Levi to draw out another aloha, Marlon. Levi knows that the new omega was going to draw out unwanted attention and he had to stop it. This is the first story in the bundle and they only get better! If you haven't read Preston Walker , you must put him at the top if your to read list. "I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book"

A compilation of alpha and omega stories. Reading through there are sweet stories and also some harder and meatier. It's a lengthy read where you meet college students, rivals gangs, billionaires among others. It's an interesting read and one that keeps you occupied for a good while. I received a free advanced readers copy of this book for an honest and unbiased review.

The Inkblots: Hermann Rorschach, His Iconic Test, and the Power of Seeing, by Damion Searls

Review

“Impressively thorough… part biography of Herman Rorschach, psychoanalytic super sleuth, and part chronicle of the test’s afterlife in clinical practice and the popular imagination… Searls is a nuanced and scholarly writer… genuinely fascinating.”—New York Times Book Review"It seems incredible that no one before Damion Searls has ever written a biography of Rorschach… His early death may have deterred other would-be biographers, but Searls sails past it with style: the second half of his book traces the fortunes of Rorschach’s famous test, which became a household word in America after World War II, when the U.S. Army used it on draftees. Searls uses this unlikely-seeming artifact to illuminate two histories, one scientific, the other cultural, both full of surprises. —The Paris Review“A marvelous book about how one man and his enigmatic test came to shape our collective imagination. The Rorschach test is a great subject and The Inkblots is worthy of it: beguiling, fascinating, and full of new discoveries every time you look.” —David Grann, author of The Lost City of Z“Searls, a writer and translator, provides a rich cultural history of the Rorschach test, along with the first proper biography of Hermann Rorschach himself….With The Inkblots, the Rorschach, in all its ambiguity, finally has the richly complex life history it deserves.” —New York Magazine"Tremendously rich... [Searls] probed unpublished letters, journals and other material to illuminate the way setting and circumstance influenced Rorschach’s life and work.... [A]n exhaustively researched story of Rorschach’s brief life and an engaging consideration of his enduring test."—San Francisco Chronicle"This excellent book begins as a biography and becomes, when [Rorschach] suddenly dies of a ruptured appendix at the age of thirty-seven, a cultural history of his creation."—Harper's"Searls provides a detailed recounting of a man whose creativity and curiosity about the human mind drove him to create a new way of 'reading' people — an innovation that was quickly embraced, and misunderstood, by the masses."—Discover   “What an amazing book. The Rorschach inkblot is like the enigmatic corpse in a mystery novel, and Damion Searls is the passionate and encyclopedic detective who unpacks the intricate and twisted story of how it came to be. By the end, one feels that Rorschach and his test are the key to understanding the whole 20th century. Searls is a wonderful writer: funny, compassionate, and unfailingly attentive to all the magical coincidences (or are they?) and twists of human history.”—Elif Batuman, author of The Possessed"If the test’s subtlety has been hammered out by overfamiliarity, Searls restores much of its potency in this rich, resonant book. A dual biography, The Inkblots tells the story of the test’s inventor, Dr. Hermann Rorschach, while tracing the strange half-life of his cards as they appear, Zelig-like, at key 20th-century moments. Along the way, it almost inadventently uncovers a hidden history of social attitudes and cultural shifts over the past 100 years… Searls creates a warm-blooded portrait of a man who feels like a Hollywood biopic in waiting.”—The Sunday Times“In this broad yet richly nuanced book, literary translator Damion Searls gives to English readers for the first time the remarkable story of the Swiss psychiatrist whose iconic test provoked interest and head-shaking everywhere… [The Inkblots] is rich with entertaining and unexpected details.”—New York Journal   “A richly detailed, sensitive biography of Rorschach’s short life and long afterlife.” —Kirkus Reviews“Very little has previously been known about Rorschach’s private life; Searls now fills in many blanks, drawing a more rounded portrait of the Swiss psychiatrist… Rorschach’s genius is apparent, and his famous inkblots ever fascinating.”—Booklist"Searls has painstakingly woven together both the enduring strengths of Rorschach’s iconic test and the controversies and convolutions surrounding it, all while capturing Rorschach’s distinctive design, to which the inkblots owe their longevity. The book’s engaging narrative, born of both detailed research and artistic sentimentality, is a fitting tribute to its enigmatic subject."—Science“A fascinating account of the Swiss artist-scientist and the rise, fall, and perseverance of his test… [Searls] offers a compelling account of cultural, intellectual and social ferment.”—Maclean's“A deft, surprising, and illuminating portrait of Hermann Rorschach, and a compelling case that his improbable inkblot experiment should earn him a place in the pantheon of psychology.”—Joshua Wolf Shenk, author of Lincoln’s Melancholy   “Who knew? Most of the founding lions of psychoanalysis often seem as petty and infantile as they were (at times) brilliant and inspired. But to hear Damion Searls tell it in this absorbing new biography, Hermann Rorschach was a different sort altogether: humane, empathic, loving, deeply sane, and possessed of a true artist’s soul. Searls’s account of Rorschach’s afterlife is no less fascinating, as every culture that encountered his test seemed to project its own values onto it. In the end, true to Rorschach, Searls locates the heart of being human at the endlessly unfurling intersection of vision and self-awareness.” —Lawrence Weschler, author of Seeing is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees and Mr Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonder   “The life of this fascinating man is a much-needed contribution to the history of psychoanalysis. This is sure to become the standard reference for both Hermann Rorschach’s life and times and the history of the inkblot test from his time to ours.” —Deirdre Bair, author of Jung: A Biography   “In this accessible biography of Rorschach, Damion Searls shows us the young psychologist, who died at a tragically early age, making his way among the feuding early 20th century thinkers in psychology, including Freud and Jung. Vividly sketched with many new sources, The Inkblots reveals Rorschach to be a fascinating character: part artist, part clinician. A marvelous portrait.” —Peter Galison, Joseph Pellegrino University Professor, Harvard University   “The Inkblots is three books in one: an engaging biography of Hermann Rorschach; a vivid and meticulously researched history of his eponymous inkblots; and a fascinating exploration of the psychology of perception. This is a book that challenges us to consider the relationship between what we see and who we are.” —Peter Mendelsund, author of What We See When We Read   “Damion Searls’s book is a refreshing biography of Hermann Rorschach and a cultural history of his famous inkblot test. Rorschach died almost a century ago and this book reveals fascinating details about his life and the enduring controversies regarding the meaning of his inkblot test.” —Joel E. Dimsdale, author of Anatomy of Malice: The Enigma of the Nazi War Criminals

Having done some scientific studies of the Rorschach and being intensely regretful about how little interest there currently is in these inkblots as a research tool I mainly read this book to learn more about this intriguing man who, like Mozart and Schubert, died in his middle thirties, and left a lasting legacy. It turned out to be fascinating portrait of the man and the method he invented. Hermann Rorschach was not a glamorous guy- he worked on the backwards of State Hospitals with chronic patients that his contemporaries largely ignored, just as they are today - but he was at once a survivor, a great creative artist and a devoted man of science who was fascinated with the ways people (whether insane or "normal") make sense of the world they live in. I wish that the same questions that Rorschach asked, and only approximated in measuring, would continue to vex the best neuroscience laboratories of today. I loved the description of his path of discovery, and of the subsequent fate of his method around the world.

There is a relationship between wisdom and understanding. It is the associate connection between what we see and how we feel. “The Inkblots”, by Searls is a fascinating and thought provoking look into the development and history of the test and it’s author, Hermann Rorschach.Different people see things differently. The various avenues of inquiry with regard to these differences requires an examination of the subject’s unconscious. An unstructured and non-objective test can reveal a subjects unconscious needs and motivations which contribute to the manner in which he responds to the question, “Tell me what you see”. The subject’s responses are evaluated according to the quality and coherence of his thought processes. The assumption of the test is that we are not passive recipients of stimuli; nor are we passive with regard to the way we interpret facts. The manner and logic of responses constitute the overall strength or weakness of a subject’s organizing ability. According to the projective hypothesis there is a back and forth process whereby one projects himself while concurrently internalizing his world. In other words, our reactions rest on the manner in which we associate our ideas. Most insightful, I believe, is Rorschach’s emphasis on the process of empathy. We gain the ability to connect with the world by exercising our capacity for empathy. The counter pole to empathy is defined as “abstraction”. “Abstraction”, is described as “an urge to turn one’s back or pull away from a connection with the world.”Searls goes on to explain the two poles of logical synthesis, deduction and induction. Details of the blot once identified can be further integrated in accordance with the reality of the blot. Cognitive coherence and cognitive complexity go hand in hand with our ability to remain reality oriented. This is a fascinating book, both for its range of information and its focus on detail. I thoroughly enjoyed Searls’ emphasis on the human dimension of personality. After all, the personality is a fascinating topic for not just psychologists and an effort to understand ourselves is always an endeavor worth pursuing.

I am a Psychologist who used (and taught) Rorschach for over thirty years. I studied under Margarite Hertz at Western Reserve University. This book is an excellent biography and history of the Rorschach Psychodiagnostic. Fascinating, scientific, and well written to boot. Hard to pass up.

What can I tell you? I'm a retired psychologist and hated the Rorschach when I was trained in the late 1970s. Having read the book, I was fascinated by by the man Rorschach, and I learned a lot about the test itself and what could be interpreted from it, things I never fully grasped or believed in in earlier years. Fortunately, I don't think I ever used one after I got my license to practice, although I did a few test batteries to assess cognitive disorders, IQs, and memory problems in nu sing home patients. I provided psychotherapy help for 30 years, from age 40-70.

I expected to enjoy a biography of Hermann Rorschach, the kind of experience which leaves the reader feeling as if he or she actually knows the subject well upon completion of the book. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver on this point. The author admits that his own Rorschach test revealed that he is "a little obsessive". The information compiled in this tome certainly bears witness to that. You'll find an exhaustive history of the test's opponents and proponents, data on its rise and fall in popularity, its emergence & use in the US, etc. Before the midpoint, Rorschach dies and those early pages cover much more than his life. I would have preferred 80% Rorschach and 20% facts, figures, and other psychologists. The book reads like a thesis, but, as a layperson, left me a tad dissatisfied. If you're looking for an in-depth history of the inkblots, this is the book.

This was a remarkable book that included a fascinating description of the creator of the inkblots and a worthy review of the history of their use. It is a balanced account of data collection vs interpretation questions that have accompanied the use of the Rorschach test. I was surprised at how widely the test had been used and happy to learn that there continue to be current developments. Damion Searls has done a masterful job and I hope that the book is widely read.

I selected this book because i thought it might be interesting to know more about a topic I've heard of but had no real experience. I absolutely loved reading it. The book is very well researched and, while I'm not an expert, I see no stone left unturned. I found it informative, illustrative, and thoughtful. I feel improved having read it. Nice job, Mr. Searls.

Rohrschach was such a positive person among a number of psychiatrists who didn't believe people could flourish. I truly appreciate Searls bringing him to our attention. I love this book and am recommending it to as many people as follow my twitter and FB fees.

*reviewed by Sophie for Mundie KidsThe lesson of working together is an important one for all ages. Heck, I still need a reminder myself. Having my third grader read this outloud to our family, reminded me of the pressure we all feel to create something that is THE BIGGEST and BEST in all the world. I do this with kids' birthday parties. My kids do this with homemade gifts especially those for a favorite teacher.Desmond and Clayton argue, try to do their own individual cards and then come to the realization that working together is best after all. It's a hard lesson and being reminded of it using colorful illustrations of adorable mice is a nice way to visualize the story.

I really liked this book a lot because beneath the story is a great message about teamwork. Two boy mice are working together to make their teacher the biggest and best valentine card, but they quickly begin arguing over the details of the card and blame each other for doing things "wrong" to mess it up. Then, they try to make cards on their own, but find they aren't happy with those cards either so they try to work as a team again and yield much better results.I love the message in the story that you can do more together than you can alone and that when you work as a team, you have to compromise what you want some for the good of the project and treat others nicely. What the two mice learn is that they created something bigger and better than they could have done by themselves. In the end, they learn that working together was more satisfying than working solo. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and detailed and really contribute to the story well. If you're looking for a cute Valentine's book with a great message or if you are a teacher like me, you can also use this as a values lesson about friendship and teamwork, then this is the perfect book!

This has to be one of the dumbest books I've ever purchased. 2 mice make a Valentine's card for their teacher. The author writes that one mouse doesnt listen to his father's advice. A good way to subtly teach your kid that disobedience to his parents is ok. The storyline is so stupid, my 4 year old daughter stared blankly the whole time, like "This is supposed to be a story?" Good riddance if this is what kids these days have to listen to. No actual plot, no substance. I can do better. I'll write a book!

I ordered these for my son's Valentine Party exchange. They were a great hit and the kids and parents loved them!

My 4 yr old loved this book and was super motivated to make her own Valentine cards this year!

I bought this for my three year old daughter as a Valentine’s Day gift and she loved it. It teaches a nice lesson of how two people can work together even if they have different views! Good purchase!

Surprise favorite of my 3 yr old grandson. He was fascinated by the conflict between the mouse friends and how they solved it. A nice story and a good lesson.

Niece loved. Great for Valentine’s Day

Eh. I liked the story okay. Probably wouldn't buy again, though the ending is sweet.

As a former cast member of Walt Disney World, and one who has read widely on Walt Disney and his creative genius, I approached this book with high expectations. Would Theodore Kinni be able to capture the essence of the practical magic of WDW? He does! Cast members often speak of "pixie dust" falling upon them--either you have it or you don't. Those who do are happily driven by the principles referred to in this book. I spent countless hours in heat, humidity, and occasional raging thunder storms to help bring happiness to our guests. It was great fun to sneak up behind a harried father who was attempting to get his weary children to smile for the camera. A few quick mugs from me almost always brought the grins Dad was looking for. Offering helpful directions. Keeping a straight face when asked "interesing" guestions: "Is that real water?" "No, Ma'am, that's Disney water!"A highlight of my life was walking through the Imagineering building in Burbank and witnessing first-hand the creative genius of the Disney organization. I learned to appreciate my own creativity --not to be afraid to dream and then to do!So what of the Disney philosophy can be applied to other businesses? Easy. Whatever you do must be of the highest quality--and always with the customers' needs in mind. You "plus" it--giving more than is expected. Every contact made with your customer must be memorable. That person will walk away feeling as if he or she has just made a new friend--a friend who has made you feel valued and important. So, are you up to the challenge? If you are, your business and its culture will never be the same.

I am a health care administrator and I liked the book so much I bought copies for all of my department managers. Within a week after giving the books, I started seeing the patient environment change for the better. A really good investment. Causes a person to think differently about how to create a desirable environment for care.

Best customer service book I've read in 40 years, and I've read a lot of them! Contained herein are some of the best common sense step-by-step methods I've seen for achieving excellence in customer service. Buy a copy for every manager in your organization and use it as a road map - work through the chapters together as a team snd translate your insights into action. The book is rich with questions to help get everyone in your organization thinking seriously about how to create amazing customer service.

Disney create a magical experience whilst you are in the resorts and theme parks. But of course it doesn't happen by magic. They don't have a secret pixie dust mine run by dwarves. They use the combination of cast, setting and process to superb effect. They do have an excellent cast- who are very well trained and drilled- and who have very clear priorities set for their work. This clarity allows them to do their work well- and creates a safe framework within which they can improvise freely and safely- creating magical moments and memories for guests. Disney Cast are simultaneously very disciplined, and yet very free and trusted. This is a good combination to achieve in any industry yet rarely done as well as by Disney and its cast. In particular the need for control and direction felt in many organisations actually leads them down the path to failure. The chains of unjustified assurance (See for example The Audit Society: Rituals of Verification demanded in many companies and government departments are actually reducing their degrees of control, and their degrees of effectiveness. The staff end up unable to give their best and the managers fruitlessly keep wondering how to bring out the best in their staff...without giving up control.Disney uses a simple approach based on overarching priorities and then local adaptations for particular settings. Their overarching priorities are very clear- safety, courtesy, show, efficiency, and in that order.Safety is not easy to assure at Disney- huge numbers of guests, and so eventually an incident will occur, even if the risk is one in a million or less- they have that many visitors so that a one in a million event will happen somewhere. Staff are trained to mitigate this risk.Courtesy is their next step. Everyone is a very individual person- and Disney try to match their staff with the people they are serving. They also study culture across the world- and make their gestures clear but neutral and inoffensive. For example a pointing finger may be polite or impolite depending on context- Disney have worked out a strategy to avoid any appearance of impoliteness.Show is harder to define- but it basically means that the guest is always focused on enjoying the park, and not on observing its workings. The amount of design work done to ensure seamless transitions between the areas of the parks is huge. Also the work that has gone into avoiding incongruous back scenes, and abrupt transitions is noteworthy. The audience's attention is never distracted unnecessarily.Efficiency is process management by Disney team mange the flow of people through their locations. The detail with which Disney tracks this is awesome- they know how many people to expect in each bit of their park, and what they will want and need- and plan ahead to meet it. The cast then make it look easy, but there's a detailed process behind it.This book describes well how Disney achieves its quality of service and if you want a bit of that magic to rub off onto you read this book, and learn. It actually makes me appreciate what Disney do more, and also realise that what they do could be replicated and adapted to many other contexts. It's all just hidden within cast, setting and process.

Easy book to read. I liked it. I learned a few things. Me, as bible study leader, I welcome ways to create environments that will open up people's hearts and to see with fresh eyes! I agree Disney is de facto for customer service. They do pay attention to detail! True you will never see peeling paint at Disney. I used to work in television, manufacturing, help desk for federal government, help desk for state government and healthcare. Some of these organizations are no longer around, but if they had applied some of these Disney basics, they could have thrived and still been around. This is a good read along with books on Six Sigma and Lean.

I could not stop reading this book. If every CEO, manager, owner and employee of every company read it and lived by Disney's rules, they would have happier employees and more customers. Well written, concise and excellent advise for everyone who is in any kind of business.

Arrived as promised- good price!

This is more about Pittsburgh baseball than the field itself. I was looking for photos of various parts of the field like the turnstile area to unlock memories from my childhood. Almost all of the photos are of the baseball field itself - something you can easily find online.

Forbes Field was such an incredible part of the history of the City and I really enjoyed taking a trip back to not only the exciting thrill the Pirates had in the facility, but in football and boxing also. What great memories!!!

Nice book. But seriously...I know mistakes happen. The Opening Day of Forbes Field was June 30, not June 20, 1909 as mentioned on the outside back cover. Hopefully this will be corrected in a reprint. Otherwise I would highly recommend the book.

Just what I needed. Perfect... better than!

Good Book

The author has beautifully woven the stories of the poets/arhats into the book. This adds in a very real sense to our understanding of the lives, aspirations and realisations of these great women and early Buddhists.

I enjoyed reading this book. I brought alive the other side of BUddhist practice for women and how they lived and loved.

Interesting to see the misogyny women have always had to struggle against, even from so called enlightened beings. Or maybe enlightenment isn't what we think it is. Also amused to learn how quickly women are able to attain enlightenment.

First Buddhist Women: Poems And Stories Of Awakening tells the true story of the wives, mothers, teachers, courtesans, prostitutes, and travelers who became the first female followers of the Buddha. Professor Susan Murcott offers a translation and extensive commentary upon the Therigatha, the earliest know collection of women's religious poetry, and contemplates issues of spiritual enlightenment and societal demands that are as important today as they were thousands of years ago. First Buddhist Women is written with a decidedly objective eye, observing equally both the positive aspects that Buddhism brought to the lives of women, particularly those women who pursued enlightenment or joined the sangha, and the negative aspects, especially those who were in effect widowed when their husbands renounced the earthly world following Buddha's example. Highly recommended for women's and Buddhist studies shelves.

In the past half year I have been studying Buddhism, and of all the books I have read, this is my favorite. I love how it combines primary source poetry, lovingly translated to preserve its measure and tone, with historical background that covers each Buddhist woman studied, as well as placing her in her original historical context. A well-reseached work, the author has extensive footnotes allowing the reader to follow up on particular items of interest. I highly recommend this book.
