This pamphlet is good for what it is -- a tool to jog your memory if you're in a survival situation. It will not help offer a great deal of help if it's your first exposure to this material.Given how small it is, I don't want to give away too much information to the detriment of the authors, but I think some detail on the contents may be helpful:One panel (out of 12) on the basic concepts of surivial and their priority: shelter, fire, and water. It also goes into maintaining core body temperature and Dave Canerbury's 10 C's (which you've hopefully brought with you when you're using this).Three panels on shelter beginning with clothes. Then it covers how to plan your shelfter, 4 different types of shelter that can be made with that tarp or drum liner you brought with you, and 3 natural methods (eg, debris shelters) if you didn't bring anything. This section also covers conserving your resources while in a survival situation. For comparison, the Bear Grylls Priorities of Survival devotes 3/16 of it's space to this topic and gives 4 examples of natural shelters (pictures only) and one with a tarp.Three and a half panels on fire. First, the three stages of fuel and how to assemble a fire along with some tips. Then how to use those things your brought with you (eg, ferro rod). Then it gets into primitive methods: specifically char cloth and a fire bow. I think this author wasted a lot of space covering the methods you hopefully brought with you. Again, for comparison, the Priorities of Survival devotes 1/8 of it's space to fire and covers three different improvised fire methods (fire bow, fire saw, and using a car battery).Two and a half panels on water. It spends space telling you that you're probably not getting enough water every day, then it gives things to look for to help locate water in nature (eg, terrain, animal tracks). It goes into water collection with that container you brought with you. Then it covers 6 methods for purifying water. By comparison, Bear Grylls' pamphlet spends 1/8 of it's space and focuses on rain/dew traps and solar stills and only lists boiling as purification.The Priorities of Survival expends almost half of it's space on rescue (signalling, navigation) and food (snares and knots). It uses 1/16 of its space on branding. This pamphlet expends 2/12 of it's space on branding (the cover and a pitch for the Pathfinder School that does include a little useful information such as "3 main killers of most lost people").Setting aside the things this product isn't supposed to cover (like signalling, per the title), it still seems to waste valuable space about things like talking about cigarette lighters. In some places it gives more information than Grylls' pamphlet and in some places less. All in all, it's not a bad little reference to keep in your emergency kit or glove box.

A great, super light weight and durable information packet. I'm a light "doomsday prepper" with mainly a bag and minimal resources to get me started, should I ever need to. This was perfect for my bag and I know if I ever need it, it will be in my bag and I'll be able to reference it with little effort. Very simplistic yet detailed and great for beginners like myself.

7 bucks is a bit steep for a folded laminated 8.5x11 and there is much un-used or under used area on it. However the information on it is good stuff.

Well worth the money. I got a series for my daughter's emergency bag which she carries in her car for trips home from school. The size and durability are added benefits. I personally prefer more pictures and less writing.

While Suzanne Brooker’s book focuses on landscapes and the natural world, the incomparable value of classical drawing principles is that they can be applied to any subject matter. Beginning with an introduction to materials (graphite pencil is the primary medium used in the book, with brief discussion of colored pencil, charcoal, pastel and water-soluble pencils), Brooker takes the reader through the basic elements of drawing, such as line, value and form, and how specific techniques can be used to express them.For me, the meat of the book begins with Chapter 3, Light Logic and Shading Techniques. Although I have studied the basic principles covered by this chapter several times in other books and classes, and I thought I understood them, Brooker’s explanations helped me to internalize the principles in a way that I hadn’t before.What is “light logic”? “The sun touches objects in nature, creating areas of light and shadow in a predictable fashion.” Because the human brain automatically uses light logic to perceive an object, it’s an essential concept for rendering a three-dimensional form realistically. It sounds so simple – the classic drawing exercise of shading a ball or cube lighted from one side – yet it’s not at all easy to apply textbook understanding to real objects that are not balls and cubes. First you have to learn to see the highlight, core shadow and reflected light on an object in space, and then you must transfer that perception to the flat paper. I am still learning to do this, of course (I expect it to be a lifelong challenge), but I have nailed the first step: I can finally see this principle. (Now I can’t walk through a park on a sunny day without seeing core shadows on trees!)Succeeding chapters focus on step-by-step exercises for developing drawings from photo references. Many demos are included, showing various stages of drawing development. Particularly helpful are sections devoted to specific natural elements that make up a landscape, such as sky, terrain, trees and foliage, and water.Throughout the book are many examples of Brooker’s own work and those of her peers, students and classical masters. Even if you never draw, it’s a huge volume of delicious eye candy to savor. But after studying this book, I believe you will draw, because fully understanding these classic principles is likely to reinforce your passion for drawing as it did mine. When I finally grasped concepts that had been only floating peripherally in my brain before, I could not keep myself from putting them into practice.This beautiful book is a reference that I will turn to repeatedly to reinforce and remind me of what I’m learning. It also reminds me of everything I love about drawing. The many exquisite examples in the book show me what’s possible, and the instructions explain why.

This book teaches the basic techniques of drawing and how to apply them to landscape drawing. The author started by talking about the different tools and materials for drawing. She explained various terms and techniques, like foreshortening, perspective, proportion, and such. She also covered the basics like how to hold a pencil, the grid method, composition, light and shading. She talked about how to apply these concepts to a drawing when you begin a drawing.Then she specifically talked about how to draw sky, terrain, trees, and water. In each section, she provided several step-by-step demonstrations showing how to draw different types of clouds, trees, etc. The first part of the book focused on pencil drawing, but she did cover charcoal pencils, colored pencils, and pastel pencils and included one demonstration for each. Overall, I'd recommend this informative book.I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.

I found this book extremely easy to understand and use. The information is practical and illuminating, especially for me. Many times a look at a landscape and just love it - but where to begin? how to interpret it and what mark or stroke will translate what I see on paper. This book goes a long way to answer some of these questions, I particularly love the section on the sky and sea, and the part on foliage is also very good.There is an awful lot of information in this book, some of it basic other more advanced, so whatever your ability this book should satisfy any landscape artist.

Very good technical information. Its my summer 2015 reading material.

This book is well written, with a clear and concise breakdown of VOIP. The third edition is a great update on the original work.

This is a nice "interesting" book. I could not find more books dedicated to Carrier Grade VoIP, or Carrier Grade Voice. PSTN replacements are all over and every operator wants to replace legacy technology with IP on VoIP or VoLTE with carrier grade voice. Some chapters go very deep in the protocols. The book is published on par with books that are printed in overseas countries India at reduced rates. I checked and could not find hardbound copy of the book. With regards to English, I would give 2.5 out of 3. Authors do convey the message but the structure of sentences and words are a bit awkward.

Who knew you could have tots for breakfast, lunch, dinner, AND dessert!?This cookbook is chock full of incredibly creative, delicious recipes. I think my favorite is the salted caramel tot cookies but it's hard to decide!There are even tot appetizers for when you want something delicious and unique (why bring the same old cheese board?)Well done and the cover/shape is so fun and the perfect size!

This is one of the best cookbooks I've ever had the pleasure of purchasing. Everyone loves tots and this cookbook has 50 different recipes involving them. There are a ton of variations in here and worth the effort that they will take to make, like most of TheFoodInMyBeard's recipes. This book is cut out in the shape and texture of a pile of cooked tots. Also, it's basically 10 bucks. Stop being cheap and buy this book for your friends, family, and for yourself.

If you love the tots this is a must have. The recipes are great and it is pretty hard to mess up tater-tots. I wish there were more pictures but that is just nit picking. He is also a great follow on Instagram for all kinds of non-tater tot recipes as well.

Who expected tater tots to be so versatile? Enjoyable recipes that are very accessible. Can't wait to work my way through it!

I bought this for a gift after seeing it on CBS. News. I thought it was a gag, but they tot-ally loved it. I kept getting texts about recipes they’d made over New Years and how much fun and good they were. Who would’ve thought? So this is as much a gag as it is a good gift.

I purchased "The Private Equity Playbook" by Adam Coffey and, frankly, I couldn't put it down. As a former owner of a nationally recognized middle-market service company. I wish that I had this book a few years ago. The author states that his book is a primer on the private equity business, but I believe that it is much more--I've read other books on the subject, but for brevity, de-mystification and just plain enjoyment this one beats them all--by a country mile.Coffey is a maverick. He sees himself as a blue -collar CEO/ He left home at 17. After a stint in the Army, he worked as an engineer and then changed to the business side , rising to middle-management with General Electric. Private equity recruiters came calling and he listened. For the last 20 years, Coffey has been President/CEO of three different national private equity backed companies. Each company has grown exponentially under his watch. And, he tells you how.The author likens the experience to building a winning team. He introduces two players , "Josh" and "Rose" ( a mirror of his former self ). Josh is the CEO of a middle-market service company. He has built the company into a recognized leader in it's field, and is thinking about selling out. He knows little about private equity and wonders if this is a viable exit strategy.--Rose is a " Fortune 500" middle-market executive who gets calls from private equity recruiters looking for a CEO/COO in a private equity backed middle-market company. She is doing well now, but wonders whether she should make a career changeThe heart of the book is Coffey's recounting of his own journey in the problems that he faced and decisions that he made. This book just is not doing it for me. A lot of the places it says things should be, are not there on my InDesign cloud interface, and the layout of the book is more of a reference guide than a book, but since many of the reference guides are wrong, I would prefer a different book. I am having to use this in a class, but I do not think I will buy more of this series again and instead will purchase the actual ADOBE classroom books instead. I have used them in the past and they seem to be more thorough and correct.

At this point I own a Vistual Quick Start Guide for all of my major programs. I like how they are written and I find them very useful. In general, they look at each program in a similar way and allow me to get my work done and learn new things extra fast.

A great reference book for inDesign that I always keep at my desk.I got tired of googling how-to's for things in inDesign and purchased this book instead. The problem with googling is that the person who is answering the questions you have no clue if they even know what you are talking about. You could spend 30 minutes searching the internet or just a few minutes reading a section of this book. Clear instructions, clear pictures, all-around great book to own if you do a lot of work in inDesign.

Pretty good book, although the index isn't that great. To wit: some of the topics I needed to find were not listed under their obvious names, but under more obscure titles, or not at all.I made a mistake when I ordered the book because it is for ID CC, whereas I have ID CS6. I don't think this is a big problem, and have the sense that once you reach a certain level of comfort, you can figure out any differences between them.I haven't tried the electronic tutorials, but have no reason to doubt other reviewers who rave about them.I think it's a good buy and I don't feel I need any other book to master CS 6.

I have just started into this book, but so far I love it. I started from page 1, because I have never used InDesign before. I have seen it used, but I never used it myself. The book so far is very clearly written and it goes over every detail. What I love are the QR code videos. When you can't quite get what the author/instructor is trying to say, these little videos come in very handy. I also love that there is an electronic version of the book.

If so, this is NOT the book for you, because there isn't a tutorial to be had from beginning to end.Or do you like to build a foundation first by learning every possible detail about every single tool, command, function, etc etc etc? If so, this book still has too many issues. I could not, in good conscience, give it more than two stars.I wanted to do one, but the book does have reference information, so there's that.The QuickStart guides don't have the same structure as the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" series at all, and only you can decide if that's an thing that is at all workable for you or not. It does depend to some extent on your learning style. The CiB series always starts with a tutorial that provides an overall example of something you can achieve by using that particular software. The problem, of course, is that you're thrown in at the deep end. And if you don't really know anything about the software yet, you'll be going through the steps it takes to get to the final product without knowing what you're doing or why you're doing it. QS doesn't do this. There's a reason why there are no lesson files to download. You're not doing tutorials or really even looking at finished examples. You're going through each and every conceivable detail about each area of the software and exactly what it can do. There are separate chapters on setup, text color, fills, strokes, and effects, points and paths, imported graphics, and text effects before it even gets to pages and books, for example. You'll learn each little piece, and there are some anecdotes about when the author worked in print publishing, but there's no real sense of how or why it all fits together. And that's a problem.On the whole, I tend to be closer to the second type of learner,but any kind of lesson plan has got to have SOME kind of example of hands-on use of the software in order to create a final product. The user NEEDS to be able to see what this program can do and what they need to know in order to get there. I do think that it's important to know at least something about what each tool/command/window/tab group is and what it does before just jumping into tutorials. That having been said, there are also very good reasons to have tutorials and results-based lessons, and I'm not sure I've ever clearly realized this before trying to get this book. Going through every single aspect of every single detail in this program without a sense of how it all fits into a larger picture gets to be a really tedious activity. It's kind of like slogging on through an endless journey with no way to either see or visualize the endpoint.So is this book worth getting? The Adobe CiB series is better, and it's just as easy to buy. However... several people have been saying that they've run into some difficulties with downloading the lesson files that are supposed to be included with CiB, and that there is no tech support at all to help with solving the issue. So that's something to keep in mind too. There are advantages to not needing lesson files, but not enough of them to put yourself through the incredible tedium of this book. Maybe if you understand you're not going to be getting any actual tutorials or real examples of a final product created with InDesign, and you're willing to go outside the book for those things (there are certainly a lot of tuts out there), then this would be an okay book. But it doesn't really work to deliver every imaginable detail about everything with NO sense of how it all fits together.

This is a poorly organized and referenced book. It is intended as a guide to take the beginner through to competence with InDesign CC, but it lacks the clarity and continuity do much more than infuriate its user. Many functions of the program do not even appear in the index, so reference is left up to chance encounter if there is any reference at all. One example is "Presets." Presets are mentioned several times within the text but are never defined nor explained and there is no index citation for Presets. This occurs repeatedly within the book. A terribly garbled section is that on importing text from other sources. As an author I tend to use Wordperfect as my main text generator. The program is versatile enough to produce output readable editable by Word, Quark,and other programs. But the section on bringing in text doesn't even mention Wordperfect nor does it suggest methods of preserving editing from any source other than Word.It even lacks clarity on what the program is doing when it produces its own de novo formatting. It would be easy but tedious to rant on for several pages about the faults of Cohen's book that I uncovered in transferring a 400 page novel from a WordPerfect/Quark document into an InDesign one. There must be better guides!
